On Thrusday, in honor of Prisoner's Day as well as the more than 11,000 Palestinians who are jailed in Israeli jails, Palestinians demonstrated accross the occupied West Bank.
In the heart of Nablus, there were around 2,000 people gathered for the demonstration. They were waiving Palestinian flags or holding large, framed portraits of their loved ones.
Banners in the demonstration read, "No peace without the release of prisoners," or "Prisoners, Jerusalem, refugees, and borders are red lines for all the Palestinian people."
There were also portraits raised of Marwan Barghuti who is a popular leader in the West Bank who was arrested back in 2002. He was sentence two years later to five life terms by an Israeli court. This was after being convicted of involvement in some deadly attacks. Barghuti's popularity level remains high while people consider him the mastermind of the uprising in 2000 and still considered a possible successor to Mahmud Abbas, Palestinian president.
In various towns more people gathered to demonstrate, advocating the freedom of the prisoners.
