Vice President Dich Cheney of Turkey, in conclusion of two-day talks with leaders of Israel and Palestine voiced out last Monday that Hamas militants as well as their backers situated in Iran and Syria spoil the Mideast peace talks.
Before returning to Turkey, the vice president told reporters that is a difficult situation and a continuing problem. Concern extends to smuggled arms to Gaza from Egyptian borders where they may be used by Hamas against Israel. Progress is difficult in the midst of ongoing activity of launched rockets and threatened lives. According to Cheney, Iran and Syria have been trying to scuttle this process for pease through Hamas in today's case of Gaza, and in the past through the Hezbollah.
Being a supporter of Israel, Cheney has been in a series of talks with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in hopes of reaching a peace agreement before the end of President Bush's term in January 2009. Cheney has also traveled to Ramalla to talk with President Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine. They discussed efforts in Yemen for reconciliation between the Fatah Party of Abbah and Hamas.
The U.S. will not offer any support to work with Hamas unless the group's stance towards Israel alters.
